Aging With Grace! – by Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

When I reached the age of 60, for the first time in my life I had a strange feeling, definitely the thought touched me that I am a senior now. I had the greatest fun when I went to see a film and it was there my friend, who went to buy the tickets, first told me, ‘you are a senior now, and you will get a discount!!’ That was a great joy for me, that I am being given a very special privilege. I thought I have become someone truly respected, special. This was in one of the cinema halls in the Chicago area.

Don’t you think that our life is groomed by our thoughts? Don’t you think that our thoughts have been the architect of our life? The whole world of science is going through an amazing phase of transformation, the old traditional beliefs and findings and laws are breaking down, giving space to a new understanding of the foundation of life, of matter of energy, of vibrations and of frequencies. The quantum world is bringing us closer and closer to understand the biology of our existence, both at the micro and macro level.

On one side there is such a lot of despair and fear, and on the other side globally there is a paradigm shift of consciousness. Now gradually the Darwinian theory is challenged, it is no longer the world of survival of the fittest, now we are growing and evolving to a new world where it is the survival of the wisest which is the new law. As we evolve we are able to realize the simple fact of life, that life lived on the periphery is superficial, but life lived from inside out is deep and vast.

This is where the art of aging with consciousness comes. Age we must. This is the law of nature, change, continuous change. The body is material hence it has to abide by the law of continual change. Degeneration is a natural process. When we touch the age of 60 many think now we enter the final phase of our life. But I am sure most of you feel truly rich when you touch that number where you are declared senior. You are rich for you are wiser than ever before. Every phase of life, with its entire roller coaster ride, has enriched you with practical knowledge of the better art of living.

This is the time you can truly start to give. Most of your responsibilities are taken care of, now you give back to the communities from whom you had taken all through your life. As you give back you feel more and more filled. There is nothing more enriching than sharing. As you involve yourself with dynamic life of manifesting the best in the outer world with your positive contributions, you find more time to go for your inner journey of the Spirit. Your seeking and searching for that ultimate mystery of life now deepens. You do more research as to how you can have the healthiest food and also how you can have a regime of yoga, pranayama and meditation in a very regular way. This enables your cellular body to get the message from you that you truly respect your body and its needs, that you are now resolved to live fit and serve your passion of life.

You no longer add numbers to your age with passing happy birthdays, but grow in consciousness, living more mindfully and joyfully a life of grace and kind compassion. You have no regrets. Your life now is a life of mindful living, mindful eating, walking, celebrating with rest of universe. Seeing you, others will learn that aging with consciousness is what true spiritual living is all about. You become a model for others. You become a person, who loves all and is loved by all. A person who lives for all and feels the connection to the whole of life, a life of holistic living, a life of purposeful living, happy living.

Celebrate each day and you never age, for your mind and heart remain in the present. You live a soulful life. And soul never ages, it is the body that ages. Soul never dies, it is the body that dissolves in elements. You are an eternal, ageless, timeless, peaceful soul, beyond all natural laws.

Ageing.. Brooke
