“I AM” Embracing our Am-ness – by Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

The Vedic Rishis and Masters call our attention again and again to first understand the basic reality, to just begin to feel the Presence within, the Presence of “Am-ness.” The existence, the “Who am I?” This is the most wondrous pilgrimage of humanity from human to being, from man to God, from somebody to no-body.

We are not the body that is perishable, which dies one day. We are neither the body nor the impure mind, but we are the pure Soul, the Atman that is birthless and deathless. If we meditate upon our Am-ness, we are close to the feeling of that existential reality that is Atman or Soul.

Man’s greatest gift is the ability to be conscious of consciousness, aware of awareness, mindful of mindfulness, and to feel this inner existential “Am-ness.” The key is awareness. To be alive is to be awake and aware. With awareness comes the balance of life, and we feel it when we just search quietly within, and experience nothing but our own Presence, our Am-ness; our silent existence.

How do we best experience our Am-ness? Nothing calms the mind as the breath. It is indeed magical how our breath can transform our anger or anxiety into calm and compassion. We need to persevere, sitting, doing nothing but just being with the breath to feel the essence of our Being, our Am-ness. With our eyes closed and attention focused on the inhalation and exhalation we can see how the rhythm of breath changes and with it our thoughts and emotion, our feeling and experiences.

God is kind to breathe through us!

May we all recognize the Divine in each other, and serve each other, love each other and be hallowed instruments of light and love. The calmer we are, the easier for the light to work through us for the good of others. We are light. We are love. We are inseparable from God, for He is our very Am-ness, our core existence. We look within and see that “I AM intact. I AM fine. I AM.”

We are in essence One and only, there is no second. As we meditate upon our Am-ness then the Am-ness speaks the original wisdom that belongs to us. The more aware we are of our existential reality, the more calm and secure we are, our life is lived from inside out, manifesting our innate divinity and our full potential as a gift of God.

Whenever I meet someone in life I always say, “You are the blessing.” This is so true! We are consciously or unconsciously ever rooted in the essence of our Existence, our Being, our Am-ness. My humble invocation for all of us is to feel this intuitively, and then manifest it in our daily lives. As we become more conscious of the Consciousness within, we will be the embodiment of the true blessing to ourselves, all others, and to Mother Earth.
