I have a confession to make…… up until January of this year the thought of “clean eating” scared the heck out of me. My focus was always about loss. I didn’t want to stop eating certain things and couldn’t bring myself to look at the substitutions seriously. I would find a recipe and as soon as there was an ingredient I had never had before my nose turned up, my upper lip would curl and the word “YUCK” was passing through my lips.
However my body had become so unbalanced and unhealthy I knew SOMETHING had to be done. Some weight loss would be nice but I was looking for a holistic method of helping my body deal with the Overlapping Connective Tissue Disease. The autoimmune disease means my body is constantly at war with itself and it felt like there was no balance. I would go to extremes of being too acidic one week to nothing the next. I discussed my situation with my family doctor and he suggested looking at nutrition as my next step. My lip instantly curled! Here we go, I have to give up foods I like, it’s going to cost tons of money for groceries and I don’t like seaweed!
In November of 2015 my beautiful friend Cindy Lithgow organized a health and wellness show and I participated as a vendor. It was at this event that I met so many lovely souls! I met Kim McConaghy from Usana and she introduced me to Dawn Mitchell. Dawn was my saving grace! She had come out to represent L.I.F.E. Nutrition for her friend Dr. Brigitte Hynes-Taylor.
Dawn and I talked at length about her experience with the L.I.F.E. program and guess what?? No SEAWEED!! Yay! I wanted to know more so I contacted Brigitte, this started my month long journey into clean eating. I love it when the moon and stars line up in just the right way to bring what and who you need into your life when you need it most.
Brigitte’s programs are unique, fun and holistic. To understand why this program works as well as it does you should understand how it evolved. I interviewed Brigitte for this article because I felt it was important for you to know her. She is not a franchise or trying to sell premade foods in a magic box.
This is Dr. Brigitte Hynes-Taylor. She is a traditionally trained Doctor, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner. Brigitte received her education abroad first in Iceland where she received her Masters in Health Promotion and then in Poland. While studying traditional medicine Brigitte kept coming back to nutrition as a way to help prevent many illnesses. She wanted to find a holistic solution for her patients. Upon returning to Canada she moved to Saskatoon with her husband where she completed her nutritional studies.
Wow, right? Brigitte is a trained Doctor and Holistic Nutritionist, this is the best of both worlds. She has managed to bring together two fields to empower and teach her clients. I was so impressed with her credentials and her training. It was a breath of fresh air to find someone who wanted to marry the best of the traditional with the holistic. This is the true essence of balance.
In 2014 Brigitte and her husband moved to Petrolia Ontario(Brigitte is originally from Camlachie so this was coming home) and she started L.I.F.E. Nutrition with the mission statement: Nourishing Your Life Naturally.
I purchased the Refresh 30 program, this was a gentle way to learn about nutrition and clean eating. There is no calorie counting, no fancy foods to buy, nothing mysterious and it deals with every level of the human experience. I chose the online program specifically for the experience. I received a manual, a grocery list, a 40 page recipe booklet and daily emails. In the emails there are daily affirmations, meditations, support and encouragement. Brigitte makes herself available for any questions/concerns. You are never alone! She also created a Facebook group for participants where she posts additional recipes, encouragement and an open forum for participants.
My investment was $65.00 CAD and a month of my time. It was worth every penny and minute. I have discovered new food combinations and I feel absolutely fantastic! L.I.F.E. offers numerous programs and my next adventure is going to be making freezer meals! All of the programs are family friendly and you do not have to buy “special” groceries just for you.
I kept an online journal of my month here: https://theothersideofhealing.wordpress.com/my-l-i-f-e-journey-with-dr-brigitte-hynes-taylor/
