I remember a time when I took myself and everything very seriously. It made for a very un-fun life. I was completely absorbed in cause and effect and bounced up and down between all of life’s dramas.
Then I realized that while it might now seem like we have any choice about the situations that we find ourselves in, we do have choice as to how we deal with them. Being very particular about coffee, I used to grind my own and label the glass jars fastidiously placing them on a shelf in my freezer. One day, I opened the freezer door somehow dislodging the shelf of coffee causing all the coffee jars to come crashing onto the floor throwing coffee on everything. If you have ever dealt with ground coffee, you will know that it gets into the tiniest crevices. Rather than get upset, I fell on the floor laughing. There I was laughing like a hyena all by myself. That day I realized the choice I was making was far more fun than choosing to get upset.
