Ah, the merry, month of May! For those of us here in the United States, we celebrate, among other things, Mother’s Day in this month. It will be Saturday, May 8th this year as it always the second Saturday of May. Brunches are attended, flowers purchased and people go out of their way to make sure that mom has to do NO heavy lifting on this day. Many men help their children make mom a breakfast in bed to surprise and delight of the woman of the day.
In our family we have been doing things a wee bit differently over the past few years as our mom made her transition in 2009. In fact, we had her ashes buried that weekend, our way of giving her an eternal day off, so to speak. Now, Mother’s Day for us, is spent doing things that would make her proud, such as sprucing up the garden, gathering with family or friends to enjoy a good meal and of course, visiting the cemetery to bring her flowers.
If you are a mom, then to you I say, thank you. Thank you for all you do and especially for all that you do that we may never know about. You know, those things that we can do for ourselves but you chose to do them to help US out! Thank you for all the cookies you bake, all the times you tell us we are so pretty or handsome. Thank you for reminding us that we can do and be anything we set our minds to accomplish. Oh, and thank you for saying I love you, probably more than we say it back. Thanks, moms and have a Happy Mother’s Day, every day!
