Mindfulness is the big thing these days even if it is old wine in new bottles. But it still is one of the best wines you can drink.
We humans tend to have a wandering mind, thoughtful, or on the way to something else in the possible future or dwelling over and over what we did or said or repeating our mistakes from the past. Never being in the present. Just try being in the present, stop reading for 10 seconds! ……………
Did you? If not try it – it is the first step to mindfulness. Give it 10 seconds!
What did your feel, what did your mind do? Was it impatient to finish the reading? Was it annoyed? Was it curious? Or did you think about all you have to do? Or did you feel peace?
Try again and try to become aware of the external world as you close your eyes, and then just let it go as you turn your focus and awareness into YOU.
Just feel the state of your body, your universe your organs and cells and accept what ever you feel; coldness, heat, tightness, tiredness, numbness or nothing.
Great! The first step is completed. You have felt your body that part of you which is material, the sum of your manifestations into yourself. The result of what you have done lately, and the sum of roots from the past ancestors as well as your life with branches to reach into the far future. But it has a present state, just now, that you can be aware of. You should feel the care for yourself and your own temple, be mindful about it.
Try this time to let go of all you feel in the body and see if you can envelop, contain or hold it all in your mind as a unit, a balloon of water, an electromagnetic field or the life force. Imagine you have an energetic field like an egg around you. Start by feeling the inside of the body as one. Realize how this energy field is not limited by the surface of the skin.
If you haven’t felt this before, you should give your self that experience. Dwell in it for a few seconds or even a minute, try to feel the energy that penetrates and envelops all parts of you. You know you have succeeded when you realize the physical body is gone! You do not feel it, before you think about it again. Then your body is not there in your mind. You just feel the energy that is vital, renewing and peaceful. The depth of this exercise decides how vitalising it is, how much sleep it is equivalent to.
When you are in the past of future you have a gap between yourself and the world. When you are present in the physical or aware of your body you have a gap between the energy around you and your body. There are more gaps but this will do for now, and as you cross each of them you approach the final void where The All unites into The Unity that seems Nothingness. What the Kabbalists called Ain and the Buddhist Nirvana.
