Here it is, my favorite time of the year, autumn! I live in the United States of America and as such as we are full into the season of autumn here. I know that on the other side of the International Date Line, it is spring so where ever you are and what ever season you are experiencing, I wish you all the best.
Okay, why is this my personal favorite time of the year? Because I was born during this season! That’s right it’s my birthday so I party hearty. Have to do this just right. We begin by sending the parental units “thank you” cards for bringing me here to the planet Earth. Then we proceed to the appreciation for all that is around me, family, home, friends, etc. and finally CAKE! Gotta have cake and it’s gotta be all mine to do with as I please. If you ask nice, I will more than likely offer you some.
Naturally my birth is not the only major event happening this time of year, in fact it doesn’t even occur until we are one full month into the season but it does start the ball rolling for me. Halloween shows up less than a week later and of course Thanksgiving follows in less than thirty days. While Christmas is a winter holiday, all the hoopla leading up to it, occurs during the autumn, in my world!
The colors of nature add to my enjoyment of this time of year. Oranges, reds, yellows and browns coming together to create a pallet of warmth and energy. When I see the leaves turn, I smile because it is as though the once green foliage has decided to deck itself out for one last hoorah before taking the plunge (so to speak). I especially like it when I catch just that flash of crimson making a defiant statement to grab my attention. Naturally I prefer this when I can hang out and enjoy it as opposed to when I see it as I am traveling 70 mph down the highway and it becomes a memory all too soon.
Bring on the cool, crisp nights that follow bright, sunny days and I am in heaven! We call it “good sleeping weather” ‘round these parts. With lots of covers to layer, I can start out with a chenille spread, add a light weight quilt and by the time morning has tapped my on the toes, I have flipped the double-thickness heavy green blankie on top of all that. Yes sir, good sleepin’ weather indeed!
With my fresh coffee, a bowl of oats and my trusty laptop fired up, I throw open the door to experience the day with the outdoor critters and we share the songs of our people. Birds hop around, squirrels and chipmunks tussle, for whatever it is they decide is worth the effort, while the neighborhood dogs show their enthusiasm for being able to roll in the grass once again. It’s a veritable cacophony of joy!
Well, I am off to enjoy more of this remarkable energy. Where ever you are, whatever season you are experiencing and whenever your birthday is, may it be the best you have had, thus far!
