Strengthen Your Wings and Soar! – by Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

Every struggle we go through is only to strengthen our wings so that we can achieve the purpose for which the Higher Intelligence has brought us to this earthly plane of consciousness. Our greatest obstacles and pains are nature’s way to prepare us for our greatest good. A little baby bird tries with all its might to free itself from its shell, and sometimes makes a long struggle. This struggle, although difficult for a human to watch without helping, is absolutely necessary for the young bird’s physical health and future growth! Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been. We could never fly.

I love to see eagles flying. I learn from them. When they fly at a lower level, they flutter their wings, and I see a lot of effort and power, and less grace, but when they gradually circle around and soar high in space, there is no more movement of the wings, the eagle flies without flapping, moves without moving. That is Grace! That is Zen. We all are in the process of reaching to that effortless Grace through all our flutters of our egoic wings, but we will soar high one day to experience that effortless Grace that is godliness, that is enlightenment.

Just as a bird cannot fly with one wing so also we cannot attain material success or spiritual illumination with only efforts. Our efforts are one wing. It is Grace that ultimately makes everything possible. Grace is the second wing. When our deepest yearning for Truth and our sincere efforts meet with Grace then the miracle happens. We can fly, initially by fluttering our wings like a low flying eagle, and then effortlessly when we soar high like the eagle flying high, gliding but not fluttering our wings. All our efforts and hard work are while we have our ego. When Divine Grace dissolves our ego, then we are back to our effortless natural Self.

We all live in a self-made cage of our ego’s physical and material desires and possessions. Even a golden cage is also a cage; we are not free to fly, fly to our freedom with wings of joy. We may try to blame others for our cage, but our family, spouse, children, and the negative people around us, none of them have caged us; feeling caged is the result of our own “self-limiting-beliefs.” Anybody can throw negative junk on us and it makes no difference to us till we start to take it personally! It is our thoughts that accept the junk thrown at us, and that starts the process of creating a painful experience, our feeling bad and low as though our wings are clipped.

We need to wake up to realize who we really are, and break free! The cage-door is only locked by our mind given to negativity; our wings are only clipped by our limited beliefs! As we embrace our obstacles and challenges, strengthening our wings with resilience, surrendering to the Grace that always surrounds us, we can fly to the space of unlimited expansion, which is LIFE. We can fly to freedom. Love has two wings, our efforts and Divine Grace, and so Love is our Angel. Let us soar high with the eagles, in joy and happiness, and be free!
