The human body as we each perceive it exists on the solid physical plane. Surrounding this physical body is the etheric body. This is the vehicle of vitality and energy. If the flow of energy becomes blocked, there is a negative impact on the physical body. The practice of Reiki can help release blockages in the etheric body.

Surrounding the etheric body is the astral body. This is the vehicle of passion and emotion. The astral body is more diaphanous than the physical. Each of us travels in our astral body when in the dream state. Together the physical, etheric and astral bodies constitute three of what are known as the Principles of Man. There are seven principles in total. The other four principles are the lower mind, the higher mind, the soul and the ego. The ego is the vehicle of spirit. It is the connection to the Absolute. These seven principles are collectively described as the Constitution of Man.

The physical body is interwoven with the etheric and astral bodies. It is strongly influenced by them. If the physical body is healthy there is balance in the etheric and astral bodies. If it is unhealthy the etheric and astral bodies are out of balance. By far the biggest influence on the physical body comes from the astral body. Because this subtle body is the seat of the emotions, dealing with emotional issues can have a positive effect on health. Stress reduction and good emotional health results in a greater likelihood of a healthier body. This is something which has been acknowledged by health practitioners for a long time. The UK National Health Service runs a scheme called Reading WellBooks On Prescription. Under the scheme, doctors can prescribe mood-boosting books to help patients tackle anxiety. The scheme operates in partnership with libraries and book clubs.

Apart from the astral influence on one’s health there is also a karmic influence. Karma accrues across all of a person’s incarnations. Positive karma from past lives brings positive experiences to this life. Negative karma brings negative experiences. And the type of karma acquired in this life will also impact on the next. To live from the heart, to recognize the essential unity of all life is a sure way to develop good karma. The practice of meditation can help with this. Meditation will also have a positive effect on the astral body which in turn promotes better physical health.

Sound medical advice and treatment are essential in overcoming illness. When looking for ways to support healing it is worth considering the threefold nature of the human condition. The etheric and astral bodies are intertwined with the physical. These subtle cosmic influences affect our lives on the earthly plane. Having regard for them can be beneficial in creating a healthier life both in this incarnation and the next.

Thank you so much Moon. This is fascinating to me. I am especially interested in the three bodies. I’ve known now for a long time I astral travel in my dreams. My dreams are quite amazing and strive to meditate more. I am at the point I can change my brain waves to a more meditative state. I cannot watch outside stories I must heal from within.

Thank you for your lovely comment Marie. I am glad you liked the article. The three bodies are fascinating and very important. We need to look after all levels of our being not just the physical.
