Time Flies – by Linda Lang

Tick-tock. Tick-tock The proverbial clock keeps ticking. The hands of time going around and around.  They say that time is an illusion, and perhaps that is so, but here in this place, it is how we measure many aspects of life.  How much time will it take?  How did you spend your time today? How long is one’s life?

When I was younger, time seemed to move much slower. Endless days of summer or what seemed like a boring eternity sitting through a class in school that wasn’t very interesting to me or a long car ride. I remember as a kid thinking that my 30 year old sister was so old.

But as you come into adult hood, perspectives change and schedules get busy, and perhaps you don’t take the time to consider time any more.

When my kids were little, I remember my mom sitting with me and telling me to enjoy every minute.  Not to take time for granted. That life passes by in the blink of an eye.

Here she was retired, not knowing where her time went. It seemed like only yesterday for her that she was a mom with young kids. In what seemed like no time at all, she was a grandmother and a great grandmother. My mom has passed now, over 5 years ago. Another life lived, another grain of sand in eternity’s endless hourglass.

My mom was trying to share her wisdom with me that day, insight that is only fully understood once it is lived.

As I get a little older and my kids are fully grown, my husband nearing retirement, I see how quickly the years have gone by. I know what she meant. That clock keeps ticking, whether you are aware of it or not.

Perhaps that is one reason why I choose to love life.  I spend time every day in gratitude and appreciation.  Living my creation and envisioning the future, and still taking some time to slow down and smell the roses.  Enjoying as much as I can in the moment!
