When she was little, my sister’s favorite gift to receive was a rock. That’s right, a plain old, find it in the driveway, rock. She’d “ooh” and “ahh” while cuddling it and giving it wee kisses. Whatever did this little girl “see” in this rock? Something that others could not! There were no dazzling colors, special designs or natural shapes such as a heart to encourage her favor. All we can conclude, is that she was seeing the beauty and worth of the rock, through her “real eyes”, the eyes of her soul.
While the eyes of our head can see flowers bloom, it takes the eyes of our soul to appreciate the dandelion in all its glory. Our physical eyes can observe the geese flying overhead but it’s the eyes of the soul that understand why the bird flies. The eyes of the soul bring us closer to the true beauty of the life all around. They allow us to sense the innocence that unites every atom in existence.
What can you look at differently? Maybe it’s your home. You may see some place that could use a paint job, some repair work or even expanded upon to provide extra space. Now, look at it through the eyes of your soul. See it as the refuge from the outside world, a place where you can let your hair down, be yourself and embrace the freedom of relaxation. Allow yourself to appreciate your home as much as it appreciates being your home. And yes, you may still make changes, here and there but in the meantime, you’ll be able to enjoy your home in ways that may have eluded you in the past.
Relationships, with people, your job and even possessions will change when how you are looking at them changes. Giving yourself the opportunity to use your real eyes, will improve your quality of life. when your quality of life improves, the quality of all life improves. That rocks!
