What if… or The Importance of You Being You – by Linda Lang

I’m sure you’ve heard the ancient wisdom “know thyself,” etched in stone by the Greeks at Delphi’s Temple  of Apollo. Perhaps you’ve even pondered it. Or even better, regularly review your life, your thoughts and responses to understand yourself better.

Many ancient wisdom teachings state that is one of the key purposes of life, to know yourself, and truly be who you are meant to be.

Several years ago, I had a powerful dream that gave me another perceptive. That apparently there is more to it than knowing oneself. It was a long and rather epic dream that I fully remembered; my favorite kind because they are ripe with messages and insight.

In this dream, I was told, not once but twice, and very clearly that I was in the wrong place. That in itself can make one ponder: where in my life am I not in the right place?

The first person to tell me uttered it out loud in the group I was waiting with. I had taken up a spot.  A spot I considered to be empty because no one was standing in it. According to the dream, this place was ‘reserved’ for someone else, and the group sent whispers throughout about how rude I was for taking up someone else’s space.

This was something I had not considered before.

I thought this was just an empty space, and yet as soon as I stepped out of that place where I was standing, a woman stepped forward into it and was greeted warmly by those that were waiting for her. Hmmm…

If your purpose is not only to know yourself, but to also BE you, to express you, and that is something only you can do. What if the Universe holds a place for you that only you can truly fill?

What if anyone else who tries to step into it, who tries to be like you (or anyone else) instead of them, is taking up the place meant for you?  And in doing so, is missing their own purpose of fulfilling the place in time and space that is meant for them alone.

So that perhaps, you not being you is actually messing up the whole system?

Maybe it’s time that we all take consideration about what is authentic in our life, including our expression, our actions, our path.  Is it truly who you are? And if it is not, perhaps we need to step out of that space and let the person who belongs in that space step into it.

Many things have changed in my world since that dream, both my inner and outer worlds. Hopefully I am standing in the right place now or at least on the right track. If I step too far out of line, I have faith my Higher Self will send the message through my unconscious in a way that I will get the meaning.

If you’re not sure you are in the right place, ask for a dream or a message and then pay attention. You just don’t know what the answer will be!
