Whimsical Soul Spa – by Danielle Hughes

When we think about the spa, our first thoughts are usually facials, massage and other feel good session for the physical body but we are more than just this physical body. Your soul is calling out to you to take time to engage with it and find a space of healing and rejuvenation within.

The beauty of a spa day is that it is taking time out for you, and yes we need to take care of our physical bodies but often we forget to do this on all levels of self. Life can get busy and we can become caught up in the day to day, the physical world, so much that we do not take time to support the Soul levels. In the world today, we are so serious and forget the simple pleasures of laughter and even just a genuine smile- you know the kind that actually reach your eyes and makes your cheeks hurt just a little.

You can connect with the Soul and create space for a Soul Spa in many ways. Like a regular spa session, you can book something with a professional or DIY your own Soul Spa experience.

Reiki and other energy healing techniques are great ways to give yourself a Soul Spa. Energetic clearing helps to release old stagnant energies so that can weigh down the spiritual bodies that are the roots of the soul in the physical body. Many practitioners of energy healing offer sessions that combine several techniques that help to relax and release on all levels.

A DIY Soul Spa will look different for everyone, because we are all unique.  One of my favourite ways to DIY a soul spa session is by connecting with the whimsical energy of the Inner Child. When you allow yourself to embrace that child-like joy and innocence, you create a direct line of healing through laughter and joy to your Soul.

Whimsical Soul Spa Idea’s:

  • Go outside! Enjoy the sun, the grass, the trees.
  • Lay in the grass and enjoy the feel of it beneath you
  • Watch the clouds and create stories from the shapes
  • Put your arms out and spin round and round until you can’t anymore- remember to laugh!
  • Climb a tree
  • Write a short story or poem
  • Colour, Draw, Paint
  • Plan a tea party with friends- bring to life your childhood imagination

Other ways to connect with the Child-Like Self and Create a Whimsical Soul Spa:

Connecting to your Child Like Self

You will need:

  • Your old picture albums
  • A wooden frame
  • Paint
  • Craft supplies- glitter, magazine cut outs, etc

Go through photo albums and find a favourite childhood photo. Think back and remember what was going on when the picture was taken, how you felt at that moment. Feel yourself as that child again. Take your time and savour the feeling.

With that feeling in mind decorate your picture frame- remember there is not right or wrong way to do this! When you are done place the photo of yourself inside and place the frame and photo in a place you will see each day.  Start by saying Good Morning and Good Night, then begin to affirm yourself with affirmations like “ I love you” “ You are beautiful” etc. As you speak more and more with your child self, you will begin to feel the connection and feel that part of you with you at all times

Deepening the Connection-Child Self Wisdom

You will need:

  • Pen
  • Paper

Draw the line down the centre of the paper. With your right hand (your adult self) ask your child self a question on the right side of the paper. With your left hand write your response on the left hand side. Try not to think to hard, just allow the answers to flow! If you are having difficulty with getting a flow; start by writing a letter to your child-like self and then with your left hand write a letter back-free flow and automatic writing.

Give yourself the gift of a Soul Spa, keep it whimsical, laugh, smile and have fun. Finding that space of lightness within, helps you to connect deeper within.
